Trump also said that “Obama’s deal would have led to nuclear weapons,” referring to the Iran nuclear agreement negotiated under former President Barack Obama. His remarks framed the agreement not as a step toward limiting Iran, but as a barrier to it obtaining nuclear arms.
The comments were delivered as Trump wrapped up the summit, and they centered on his long-standing criticism of the Obama-era Iran deal and his view that it is necessary to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran.
