Negotiations regarding the deployment of international forces in Lebanon are ongoing but face significant challenges, a European official involved in the talks told i24NEWS. The official stated that placing international troops on the ground remains a distant goal at this stage.

The primary obstacle is establishing clear mechanisms and protocols for monitoring a ceasefire and managing the movement of forces. Discussions about deploying soldiers can only seriously begin once these operational frameworks are defined, the source explained.

According to the official, all parties involved are cautious to avoid repeating what they perceive as a mistake made in Gaza, where international forces were discussed before their mandate, authorities, and operational scope were clearly defined. The parties are anticipating another round of talks in Rome, though this has not yet been confirmed.

Despite recent escalations along the Lebanon border, the European official expressed relative optimism, noting Europe's continued commitment to the efforts and its hope to contribute to the agreement's implementation.
