EU Nations Offer Resources for Lebanon Mission

The European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, announced that over 10 member states are willing to contribute resources and personnel to a new EU military and civilian mission in Lebanon. The mission aims to advise and train Lebanese forces, bolstering internal security forces in Beirut.

The initiative is intended to free up the Lebanese army to focus on disarming Hezbollah. Discussions about this potential EU mission are taking place against the backdrop of the upcoming expiration of UNIFIL's mandate, the UN peacekeeping force on the Lebanon border, which is set to end at the close of 2026.
