A Shin Bet operative whose identity was revealed by MK Tally Gotliv of Likud has filed a petition to Israel’s High Court of Justice, asking it to cancel the Knesset’s decision granting her immunity from criminal prosecution. The filing comes only days after the Knesset plenum approved her request, with 61 lawmakers supporting it and 48 opposing it.
The immunity decision followed an indictment against Gotliv for exposing the operative’s identity, an offense punishable by up to three years in prison. According to the petition, Gotliv published the operative’s name and details on X, identifying him as the partner of protest activist Shikma Bressler and repeating claims that security officials and the prime minister have rejected.
The petition says the post received more than 400,000 views and placed the operative and his family in real danger. It argues that the Knesset’s immunity ruling conflicts with the Shin Bet law and sets a dangerous precedent that could allow elected officials to harm state security and the lives of security personnel.
The filing also says Gotliv violated a clear legal prohibition by exposing a protected identity while spreading conspiracy theories that were explicitly denied.
