Knesset Committee Backs Tally Gotliv’s Immunity Request in Shabak Case
The Knesset House Committee approved MK Tally Gotliv’s request for immunity from criminal prosecution over the indictment against her for revealing the identity of a Shin Bet officer. The vote now goes to the full Knesset, which will decide whether the criminal proceedings against her will be suspended during the current Knesset term.
The committee vote passed 11 to 3. Supporting the request were Ofir Katz, Nissim Vaturi, Amit Halevi, Moshe Saada, Avichay Buaron, Simcha Rothman, Uriel Buso, Yosef Taieb, Yitzhak Goldknopf, Michal Buskila and Limor Son Har-Melech. Opposing it were Oded Forer, Naor Shiri and Merav Ben Ari.
Gotliv said in the committee, “If Ittai Ofir could attribute a security offense to me, he would have done so, but he cannot. I exposed Bresler’s partner as a Shin Bet agent for one purpose, to make it clear to you that there was a rebellion and a coup on the prime minister’s head.”
Last month, Gotliv was indicted for disclosure and publication of classified information under the Shin Bet Law, an offense carrying a maximum sentence of three years in prison. According to the indictment, she posted on X the identity and details of the Shin Bet officer, who is the partner of protest activist Shikma Bresler, including by sharing a post from the site “Edna Carnival.” If the full Knesset approves the immunity request, the case will be frozen until the end of the current Knesset. When a new Knesset is sworn in, Gotliv would need to submit another immunity request to stop the proceedings from resuming.
