A Shin Bet operative whose identity was disclosed by MK Tali Gottlieb has petitioned the High Court of Justice against the Knesset’s decision to approve her immunity request. The petition seeks to cancel the parliamentary ruling that granted Gottlieb protection from criminal indictment over revealing the operative’s confidential identity on social media, in violation of the General Security Service law.
The filing says Gottlieb also spread false conspiracy theories that were rejected by the security services and by the prime minister. According to the petitioner and his lawyer, attorney Idan Seger, the Knesset’s decision sends a dangerous message to members of secret security services that their lives can be exposed for a fleeting political interest.
Seger said, “We are confident that the Supreme Court will stop this dangerous precedent, and will rule that the Knesset cannot become a safe haven for someone who admitted to deliberately committing a security offense and harming state security.”
After the plenum vote, Gottlieb said the attorney general was seeking “to sabotage, thwart and smear” the right-wing government. She claimed there was a clear effort to whitewash the Shin Bet leadership while blackening the government over the October 7 attack, and said, “We will never know how the October 7 disaster happened to us.” She added that she stands by her substantive immunity, saying the act was done as part of her role, “for the people and for my role.”
