The Knesset opened a debate on whether to grant immunity from prosecution to MK Tally Gotliv after she was indicted for publishing the name of a Shin Bet officer. The officer was reportedly the partner of protest activist Shikma Bressler. The matter comes after the Knesset House Committee approved immunity by 11 votes to 3, and the full plenum is now holding the final vote.
About 70 MKs registered to speak in the debate. Coalition chairman Ofir Katz defended the committee’s decision, accusing the opposition of behaving like, in his words, “a army of spineless people” and of shouting at anyone who questioned the attorney general over selective enforcement.
Opposition MK Yuli Edelstein attacked the move on X and said he would vote to strip Gotliv of immunity. He asked, “If Arab MKs had exposed the names of Mossad agents and Shin Bet officers? Would we also stay silent?” He added that this is why he will vote to remove Gotliv’s immunity.
About a month ago, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara announced her intention to file an indictment against Gotliv for allegedly disclosing classified information under the Shin Bet Law. The committee’s approval came after a series of lengthy hearings, and the plenum is expected to decide the matter definitively.
