Belz Hasidism Replaces Knesset Representative Yisrael Eichler with Elyakim Stark

The Belz Hasidic community has decided to replace Yisrael Eichler, its representative in the Knesset, with Elyakim Stark, a senior figure within the Hasidism. Stark, considered one of Belz's most influential personalities in recent years, is expected to take over Eichler's seat. This change follows recent personnel shifts within the Degel HaTorah faction, where veteran lawmakers Moshe Gafni and Uri Maklev were also replaced. The current move extends these changes to the Agudat Yisrael faction.

Efforts by Eichler's associates to prevent his ousting in the past day proved unsuccessful, with the Hasidic leadership confirming the decision is final. Eichler, who currently serves as Deputy Minister of Communications and has previously held positions such as Chairman of the Labor and Welfare Committee and Deputy Knesset Speaker, has been a Member of Knesset intermittently since 2003. Despite his surprise at the decision, Eichler stated he would obey any directive from the Rebbe.

Eichler's designated successor, Elyakim Stark, currently chairs the Belz General Council and managed the Hasidism's political operations during the most recent local elections.
