Belz Hassidic Dynasty Replaces Knesset Representative After 20 Years

In a significant shift within the Belz Hassidic community, Deputy Minister Israel Eichler will be replaced as the movement's representative in the Knesset after serving in various capacities since 2003. The decision, made with the blessing of the Rebbe of Belz, will see Rabbi Elyakim Stark assume the role of the movement's representative in the upcoming 26th Knesset, running on the United Torah Judaism list. Eichler will transition to serve as the chairman of the "Machzikei Hadat" movement, continuing to lead its path.

The two leaders are reported to have collaborated on the official announcement, signaling a commitment to continued cooperation. Stark, described as a prominent, energetic young leader within the Hasidism, has recently gained prominence and is reportedly well-regarded by the Rebbe's son. He currently chairs the movement's executive committee and gained extensive political experience managing its campaign in the recent local elections.

Sources within the Belz community indicated that Eichler was surprised by the decision, having expected to continue his Knesset service. However, as a loyal Hassid, he has accepted the Rebbe's directive. Some attribute the change to a broader trend of refreshing political representation, potentially influenced by similar decisions in other parties to replace veteran lawmakers.
