Acclaimed Israeli Director Joins Gadi Eisenkot's Political Party
Filmmaker and screenwriter Eliran Eliya has announced his intention to join "Yashar!" (Straight!), the political party led by former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot. Eliya, who currently heads the Directors Guild of Israel, is a prominent creator known for the acclaimed film "Doubtful" starring Ran Danker and the successful series "The Good City," featuring Oz Zehavi, Teqi Dayan, and Agam Buhbut. Throughout his career, Eliya has blended filmmaking and television production with extensive social and educational activism, focusing his work on sensitive Israeli societal issues such as at-risk youth, social disparities, and the education system.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Eliya has significant municipal experience. In 2018, he was elected to the Or Yehuda City Council, serving as deputy mayor responsible for informal education and the development of older neighborhoods. He also championed LGBTQ+ rights within the city. Within the "Yashar!" party, Eliya is expected to lead the education and culture portfolio, aiming to reduce social gaps, strengthen local governance, and promote Israeli creative output.
Eliya's addition follows recent significant endorsements for Eisenkot's party, including social entrepreneur and Israel Prize laureate Adi Altshuler and Knesset member Chili Tropper. These moves are part of Eisenkot's strategy to build a broad public and educational slate of candidates in preparation for the upcoming elections.
