Police Arrest 11 Illegal Migrants Hiding in Shipping Container in Haifa

Police in Haifa arrested 11 residents from the territories who were in Israel without legal permits, after they were found hiding inside a shipping container. The arrests were made as part of an initiative by the Coastal District to combat illegal stayers.

The operation occurred during a proactive police mission, following specific intelligence that led officers to the suspects' hiding place. All those arrested, who are residents of the territories and had infiltrated Israel without proper documentation, were taken to the Haifa police station for further investigation.

The issue of illegal stayers has become a significant challenge for Israeli police, particularly the Coastal District. Infiltration often occurs through breaches in the border fence or with the help of Israeli citizens, driven by economic reasons and the search for work. Security officials emphasize that this poses a tangible security and criminal risk, as these individuals are not monitored.

Illegal stayers are frequently involved in property crimes, vehicle theft, and working in construction sites without adequate safety or health oversight. In recent weeks, the Coastal District police have increased their presence and operational activities in sensitive areas like construction sites, industrial zones, and abandoned buildings to find makeshift shelters used by illegal immigrants.

The use of shipping containers, warehouses, or marine structures as temporary lodging has become a known method for those trying to evade law enforcement. Police stated that their fight against this phenomenon is ongoing, employing both overt and covert measures to reduce illegal stays and to act firmly against employers, facilitators, and anyone providing support for this activity.
