Southern District prosecutors filed an indictment a few days ago against a southern Israel resident accused of violently robbing an 80-year-old woman in broad daylight near Beersheba’s municipal market. The incident allegedly took place on the morning of June 4.
According to the indictment, the suspect ran toward the woman, pushed her to the ground, and caused her to fall onto the sidewalk. While she was on the ground, he allegedly grabbed her bag. The woman tried to resist and held onto the bag, but prosecutors say he kept pulling until he took it and fled, leaving her injured on the pavement.
Passersby helped the woman and called police. The suspect was arrested shortly afterward near the scene by a security guard who happened to be in the area. The woman later required medical treatment because of the attack.
The indictment charges the man with aggravated robbery, based on the circumstances of the assault.
