Police Arrest Teen Suspect in Assault and Robbery of 78-Year-Old Woman in Haifa

Police have arrested a teenager on suspicion of assaulting and robbing a 78-year-old woman in the Kiryat Eliezer neighborhood of Haifa. The incident happened on Thursday and was captured in footage circulated on social media.

In the video, the suspect, wearing a shirt identified as a school shirt, is seen following the woman, snatching her bag, and then struggling with her when she tried to resist. During the struggle, she fell and was injured.

Medical teams were dispatched to the scene and treated the woman before evacuating her to a hospital in the city. She was reported to have suffered light injuries.

Over the weekend, police arrested the minor, questioned him, and jailed him. Police said that, depending on the investigation’s findings, they will seek to extend his detention. In a statement, police said they launched an investigation immediately after the report, carried out significant investigative steps, collected evidence and reviewed security camera footage in an effort to identify the suspect and establish the facts.
