Local Council Head Samir Abu Zeid Withdraws Knesset Candidacy
Samir Abu Zeid, head of the local council in the town of Eilabun, announced on Tuesday, September 7, 2026, that he is withdrawing his candidacy from the Hadash (The Democratic Front for Peace and Equality) party list for the upcoming Knesset elections. Abu Zeid stated that his decision to run was based on his sense of responsibility and a desire to help the party overcome a difficult phase and maintain its unity, not personal ambition. He explained that his initial agreement to run came after another candidate, Jaafar Farah, had announced his withdrawal on Friday, September 4, 2026. However, with Farah's subsequent decision to continue his candidacy, Abu Zeid felt the original reason for his own nomination was no longer valid. Abu Zeid expressed his commitment to serving his community and supporting Hadash's political platform and unity, regardless of his position. He wished Farah and the party success in the elections.
