Israeli Police Chief Proceeds With Appointments Despite Minister's Freeze Order
Israeli Police Commissioner Danny Levy has initiated a series of appointments within the police force, defying instructions from National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. Ben-Gvir had previously ordered a freeze on 141 pending appointments, citing the upcoming elections.
Despite the minister's directive, Commissioner Levy has approved and finalized several positions. Among these is the appointment of Tamar Liberty as Deputy Legal Advisor for the Police.
In response, Minister Ben-Gvir reiterated his decision, stating that no appointments would be made before the elections, with the exception of "exceptional cases." He clarified that any such exceptional cases would require his personal review and approval, contingent upon clear justifications provided by the Police Commissioner. All other appointments are to be considered and discussed after the elections.
