Israel's National Security Minister Halts Police Appointments Until After Elections
Israel's Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has informed Police Commissioner Danny Levi that no new appointments will be made within the police force until after the upcoming elections. Ben-Gvir stated that it is inappropriate to conduct senior appointments approximately six weeks before an election, as it could be perceived by some as a "hijacking" of the process. Consequently, all appointments will be frozen, with exceptions only for urgent cases that will be reviewed individually.
This decision comes just one day before 11 appointments of deputy commissioners and 130 appointments of assistant commissioners and deputy superintendents were scheduled to be announced. The freeze affects a significant number of positions within the police hierarchy.
