Four Suspects Arrested in Car Theft Ring Bust Near Gedera

Police arrested four suspects over the weekend in connection with a car theft ring operating in the Lachish region. The operation, a joint effort by the Lachish District Special Investigations Unit, the SAHAR unit, and detectives from the Ashkelon station, was launched after police received intelligence about a group from East Jerusalem planning property crimes in Gedera.

During the operation, officers identified a vehicle believed to be the gang's lead car. After a pursuit on Road 3 near Yesodot, the driver was apprehended. A second suspect, from the Judea and Samaria region, was arrested for suspected involvement in vehicle theft. Shortly thereafter, a third suspect was detained for stealing a Toyota Auris.

A fourth suspect, an illegal resident from Tulkarm, was found during a foot search in Gedera and is also believed to be part of the gang. All suspects were taken for further investigation. Initial findings suggest the ring was active in multiple locations within the Lachish area and is suspected of involvement in several recent car thefts.

The arrests come amid a reported decrease in vehicle thefts nationwide. According to police data from January 1 to August 23, 2026, there has been a 27% drop in car thefts compared to the same period in 2024, with cases falling from 13,373 to 9,828. Business burglaries saw a 12% decrease, and residential and vehicle break-ins dropped by 8%.
