Special Education School in Modi'in Renamed for Pioneering Educator Sally Baine

The "Mosaic" special education school in Modi'in Maccabim Re'ut will now be named after Sally Baine, a groundbreaking Jewish educator who worked over a century ago. Baine believed in the potential of children with special needs, advocating for their right to learn, develop, and fully integrate into society, focusing on the child rather than their disability.

The decision to rename the school was initiated by its principal, Ella Mor, and was influenced by Holocaust researcher Roni Dotan's extensive research into Baine's work and educational legacy. The Modi'in Maccabim Re'ut municipality stated that Baine's educational spirit guides the "Mosaic" school staff daily as they strive to maximize students' abilities and foster independence and community integration.

The renaming coincides with the school's expansion and the opening of a new adult wing. This wing will soon house an employment center for older students and graduates of the institution. The municipality emphasized that true community integration extends beyond the classroom into employment and independent living, asserting that the city is actively implementing Baine's social and educational vision.
