Woman Finds Tick in Chicken Fillet, Sues Retailer

A pregnant woman in Israel discovered a tick inside a package of raw chicken fillet she purchased from the Rami Levy supermarket chain while preparing lunch for her children. Little Barcan told "Ha'Olam Ha'Boker" that she always checks her food and was fortunate to have done so more thoroughly this time, recognizing the tick from their pet dog. Her concern was heightened due to her advanced pregnancy, and she noted that the chicken was intended for her 1.5-year-old and 4-year-old children, stating such contamination could cause food poisoning.

Barcan contacted Rami Levy, which apologized and took her details. She also reached out to the slaughterhouse and the Ministry of Health. The slaughterhouse denied responsibility, suggesting the tick could not have originated from their facility and advised her to pursue the matter with the Ministry of Health. Barcan expressed disbelief, pointing out the tick was found in a sealed, vacuum-packed container, and accused them of shifting blame.

Barcan has filed a lawsuit, stating that if the seller cannot explain how the tick got into the package, they should explain it to a judge. She described the experience as traumatic and expressed frustration with being passed between different entities, emphasizing the potential for severe health damage. As of the report, neither the Ministry of Health nor Rami Levy had responded to requests for comment from "Ha'Olam Ha'Boker."
