Jewish Children Raised in Arab Villages Need Rescue, Yad L'Achim Appeals

The Jewish tradition marks significant milestones for children at age five with the study of Torah (Mikra) and at thirteen with Bar Mitzvah, signifying their entry into religious observance. However, hundreds of Jewish children in Israel are growing up in Arab villages, completely disconnected from their Jewish heritage and identity. These children miss out on fundamental Jewish education and traditions, lacking the natural connection to the people of Israel.

The organization Yad L'Achim is actively working year-round to assist women and children who find themselves in these difficult circumstances. Their efforts focus on rescuing these individuals and facilitating their return to the Jewish community. Each case requires significant effort, ongoing support, and resources.

As the High Holy Days approach, Yad L'Achim is launching an appeal to connect the mitzvah of redeeming captives with the power of prayer during this solemn period. On the eve of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, esteemed rabbis and emissaries of Yad L'Achim will pray for donors and their families at three holy sites: the Western Wall, the Cave of Machpela in Hebron, and the tomb of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in Meron.

The prayers will be for abundant livelihood, robust health, satisfaction from children, and a sweet new year. The names of those who contribute will also be mentioned before prominent righteous figures. Yad L'Achim emphasizes the importance of this mitzvah, quoting Maimonides: "There is no greater mitzvah than redeeming captives." The organization highlights this as an opportunity, especially at the start of a new year when individuals pray for their own families, to remember and help these Jewish children waiting to return home.
