German Concrete Plant Torched Over Company's Israel Operations

The story · English

Five trucks were destroyed and seven vehicles damaged in an arson attack overnight between September 1-2 at a concrete company's compound in Rossbach vor der Höhe, in the German state of Hesse. The estimated damage is around 800,000 euros. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.

A letter posted on the far-left website Indymedia claimed responsibility for the attack, accusing the German conglomerate Heidelberg Materials of profiting from operations in the "territories" and what it termed "genocide against the Palestinian population." The letter's authors, identifying themselves as "communists," stated they targeted the plant and its concrete mixers due to the activities of its subsidiary, Hanson Israel, in the West Bank.

A police spokesperson told the German newspaper Bild that the authenticity of the letter is being investigated and that the inquiry is considering all possibilities. Security footage from the site reportedly shows two unidentified individuals entering the premises and placing homemade incendiary devices with timers among the trucks.

Authorities are currently examining whether this attack is connected to a series of recent sabotage incidents across Germany, including incendiary devices thrown at the defense and technology company Rohde & Schwarz in Munich and attempted sabotage of electrical systems in Brandenburg and Cologne.
