Contractor Accused of Smuggling Dozens of Kilos of Drugs into Gaza
The Southern District Attorney's Office has filed an indictment against Muhannad Abu Yahya, a 25-year-old contractor from Rahat, who allegedly smuggled dozens of kilograms of drugs into the Gaza Strip. Abu Yahya worked on infrastructure projects in positions within the "Yellow Zone" in Gaza.
According to the indictment, Abu Yahya was apprehended by investigators from the Major Crimes Unit (YAMAR) in late July along the Philadelphi Corridor. He was found in possession of approximately 40 kilograms of hashish and tens of thousands of Captagon pills, weighing about 11 kilograms. He is suspected of drug trafficking and smuggling into Gaza.
Investigators also seized 98 new mobile phones from Abu Yahya, though these were not included in the charges filed. The indictment was submitted to the Beersheba District Court.
