VAR Explains Controversial Penalty Awarded Against Maccabi Haifa
Maccabi Haifa goalkeeper Omri Glazer saved a penalty against Hapoel Petah Tikva on Saturday, after a controversial decision to award the spot-kick. The penalty was given when the ball struck the body of Hapoel player Wanderson Tsunami, specifically his arm, which was extended away from his body. According to the VAR team's explanation, Tsunami's arm was positioned in a way that necessitated the penalty call.
Despite the explanation, the ball was reportedly far from Tsunami's hand. Glazer successfully saved the penalty taken by Petah Tikva's Klay. This save marked a significant moment for Glazer, who had previously conceded 17 consecutive penalties since the 2017/18 season. In his career, Glazer has saved three out of 34 penalties faced.
