Maccabi Haifa Goalie Saves Penalty After Unusual VAR Decision
Maccabi Haifa goalkeeper Omri Glazer saved a penalty kick against Hapoel Petah Tikva on Saturday, following a controversial Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision. The penalty was awarded after the ball struck the body of Hapoel player Wanderson Tsunami. The VAR team explained that Tsunami's hand was positioned so far from his body that it constituted a handball offense, necessitating the penalty.
Despite the VAR's ruling, Glazer successfully saved the penalty taken by Guy Clai. This save marked a significant moment for Glazer, who has a career record of saving three out of 34 penalty kicks. Notably, this was the first penalty he had saved during regular play since the 2017/18 season, having conceded 17 consecutive penalties since then.
