VAR Controversy Erupts Over Haifa Penalty Decision

A controversial penalty decision against Maccabi Haifa during their match against Hapoel Petah Tikva has sparked debate, particularly regarding the explanation provided by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. Despite the ball reportedly being far from Tsunami's hand, the VAR team advised the referee to award the penalty, citing that Tsunami's hand was "so open" that a penalty kick was warranted.

Maccabi Haifa goalkeeper Omri Glazer successfully saved the penalty, taken by Hapoel's Klay. This save marked a significant moment for Glazer, who had previously conceded 17 consecutive penalties since his last save in the 2017/18 season. In total, Glazer has saved three out of 34 penalties faced in his career.
