Israir Ordered to Compensate Family Stranded in Zanzibar

A court in Herzliya has ordered the airline Israir to pay over 9,000 shekels in compensation to the Shnir family for expenses incurred after their flight from Zanzibar was canceled. The cancellation was due to the closure of Israeli airspace. The Shnir family was reportedly stranded on the island for nine extra days, returning on June 27 after purchasing their own tickets on Fly Dubai for 12,245 shekels. The family had initially sued for 25,907 shekels, seeking reimbursement for food, water, and accommodation, as well as the cost of the new tickets. Israir had offered either a refund of 5,027 shekels or a voucher with a 10% bonus. The court ruled that the airline "consciously failed to fulfill its obligations to provide assistance to passengers." While Israir cited force majeure and the military situation, the court determined these circumstances did not absolve the company of its basic responsibilities.
