Jaafar Farah Withdraws Knesset Candidacy to Support Joint List

Jaafar Farah has officially withdrawn his candidacy for the Knesset, where he was slated to run in the second position on the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality (Hadash) list. The decision, announced on Thursday, September 4, 2026, was made "out of responsibility and in support of the Joint List," according to a statement from the party. Farah's move is intended to counter attempts to undermine the Joint List by exploiting allegations against another candidate, Abu Basel, which the party has vehemently denied.

Farah stated he would continue his political and social activities to support Hadash and the Joint List. The party lauded his decision as a significant sacrifice demonstrating great responsibility and courage, referencing his past involvement in youth movements, student activism, and his leadership at the legal center for equal rights, "Musaawa." They also expressed appreciation for his willingness to dedicate his energy to the Joint List and party work, wishing him a swift recovery from a recent health issue.

The Democratic Front for Peace and Equality's national secretariat and the party's central committee are scheduled to hold a joint meeting on Saturday to elect a new candidate for the second seat, with the position open to all members of the party's national council.
