Writer Ziad Shleiyout Lectures on Abdel Halim Hafez in Shfaramr
Journalist and writer Ziad Shleiyout recently delivered a lecture at the 'Mofet Club - Old City' in Shfaramr, focusing on the life and art of the renowned Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez, often called 'Al-Andaleeb Al-Asmar' (The Dark Nightingale). The lecture comes ahead of the 50th anniversary of Hafez's death next year.
Rita Ayoub, the club's coordinator, welcomed Shleiyout, thanking him for accepting the club's invitation to present a series of lectures on various topics. Shleiyout began the session with general questions about Hafez displayed on a screen, transitioning into a discussion of the singer's life. This included his birth, childhood, musical studies, artistic beginnings, and the challenges he faced.
The lecture covered Hafez's success in conjunction with the 1952 Egyptian Revolution, his patriotic songs, his acting career, his struggle with illness, and significant artistic milestones. Shleiyout also addressed audience questions regarding Hafez's rumored marriage to actress Soad Hosny, the enduring legacy of his music nearly half a century after his death, and his overall impact.
Shleiyout concluded by thanking the club members for their engagement and the club's administration, represented by Rita Ayoub and activities coordinator Said Shehadeh, for the invitation. The event was photographed by the Mofet Club.
