Switzerland’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday that the formal signing of a possible memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran is expected on Friday, June 19, at the Bürgenstock resort in central Switzerland. The announcement comes after Donald Trump declared that an agreement with Iran had been reached, and officials in Israel and abroad are preparing for the signing, though many details remain unclear.
Bürgenstock is an upscale mountain resort above Lake Lucerne, surrounded by Alpine views. The property, which hosted Ukraine’s peace summit with Volodymyr Zelensky about two years ago, covers 60 acres and includes three hotels and residences. The resort says its design is meant to let guests “immerse in the Alpine environment.”
Swiss reports said the location was proposed by Pakistani and Qatari mediators, as well as by the United States and Iran. Switzerland’s foreign ministry said the country is acting as a mediator and is providing the practical and diplomatic conditions needed for the meeting on its territory.
The hotel has a five-star rating and has been described by visitors as combining modern comfort with traditional Swiss character. Coverage also highlighted the view from the Hammetschwand elevator, the highest outdoor elevator in Europe, and nearby alpine golf courses. A night at the resort costs about 4,700 to 5,500 shekels, including a lake-view room, breakfast, and free rides on the cable car and ferries on Lake Lucerne.
