Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that the formal signing, or possible signing, of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran is expected to take place on June 19 at the Bürgenstock resort in central Switzerland. The announcement came after President Donald Trump said an agreement with Iran had been reached, prompting preparations in Israel and abroad for a signing as soon as Friday.
Bürgenstock is a luxury mountain resort overlooking Lake Lucerne and the Alps. It spans 60 acres and includes three hotels and residences designed to match what the resort describes as an immersive Alpine setting. The site hosted Zelensky’s peace summit about two years ago.
Swiss reports said the venue was proposed by Pakistani and Qatari mediators, as well as by the United States and Iran. Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry said the country is acting as a mediator and is creating the practical and diplomatic conditions needed for the meeting to be held on its territory.
The resort has a five-star rating and is described by visitors as combining modern comfort with traditional Swiss atmosphere. Nearby attractions include the Hammetschwand lift, billed as Europe’s highest outdoor elevator, and Alpine golf courses. For visitors, a night at the resort costs roughly 4,700 to 5,500 shekels and includes a lake-view room, breakfast, and free rides on the lake cable car and Lucerne ferry.
