Switzerland's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that the signing ceremony for the agreement between the United States and Iran will take place this Friday in the resort town of Burgenstock, one day after the two sides reached understandings on the details of a memorandum of understanding.
Israeli media reported Monday night that representatives from the United States and Iran had already signed a preliminary version of the memorandum ahead of the formal signing. A senior American official said in a briefing for reporters that the memorandum will carry the signatures of President Donald Trump, Vice President J. D. Vance, and Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
According to the official, Trump will not attend the formal ceremony. The United States will instead be represented by Vance, along with White House advisers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
The official said, "We have direct contact with senior officials in the Iranian system, and that is something that has not happened in 47 years." He added that the Iranians had agreed to unprecedented concessions, and that in return the United States is considering steps it had not previously agreed to.
