Bürgenstock, the Swiss luxury resort overlooking Lake Lucerne, is hosting the U.S.-Iran summit mediated by Pakistan and Qatar. The meeting is taking place in one of Europe’s most isolated and upscale settings, high in the Swiss Alps about 500 meters above the lake, and the conference has been officially named the “Lake Lucerne Summit.”
The resort is known for both its scenery and its price tag. A standard double room in the modern hotel starts at more than 2,110 Swiss francs per night, while the royal suite with lake views begins at 19,500 francs a night. Simpler rooms in the chalet-style buildings cost several hundred francs. The complex includes the main hotel with 102 rooms and suites, plus a historic heritage building with classic European style.
Guests can also use extensive wellness and leisure facilities, including a three-story alpine spa, an infinity pool designed to appear suspended above the lake, a nine-hole golf course, a private cinema, and secluded hiking trails around the mountain. The resort’s geography and isolation are central to why it was chosen for the talks, since they allow Swiss security forces to create a tight perimeter and keep out unauthorized people.
Over the years, those same features have made Bürgenstock a favored venue for confidential international discussions that require total separation from the outside world. Late on Monday, Iranian officials announced they were leaving the resort, with only technical teams remaining. U.S. Vice President Vance stayed behind and was expected to return to the United States in the coming hours.
