Notorious Israeli Murderer of Teens in the 1980s Dies in Hospital

Atef Sbeih, a 68-year-old prisoner convicted of murdering two teenagers in the 1980s, died on Tuesday at the Dafna Carmon Hospital. Sbeih, from the northern region, was serving his sentence at Rimonim-Ofek Prison.

As is standard procedure for the death of an inmate, an investigation team has been appointed to examine the circumstances of his passing.

Sbeih was convicted of the murders of 14-year-old Danny Katz and 21-year-old Dafna Carmon. Carmon, a discharged soldier from Haifa, disappeared in June 1982 while on her way home after visiting friends. Her remains were discovered three weeks later in a forest near Beit Oren and identified. Danny Katz disappeared a year later on his way to a friend's house in Haifa. His body was found three days later in a cave near the town of Yaad.

An investigation into Katz's murder led to five suspects from Sakhnin. During questioning, they confessed to the murder. Subsequently, two of the suspects also admitted to involvement in Dafna Carmon's murder, leading to Sbeih's conviction for both crimes.
