On Gimmel Tammuz, Kikar HaCity Organizes Special Prayer for Donors
On Gimmel Tammuz, the date associated in Jewish tradition with Joshua commanding the sun to stand still in Gibeon, Rabbi Baruch Dov Povarsky is set to host a minyan of leading rabbis at his home for a special prayer on behalf of donors to Kupa Ha'ir. The organizers say the day has special spiritual power for miracles and deliverance, and the prayers will mention each donor by name.
According to the campaign, the gathering is meant to help those who contribute to the charity, with the hope that, as they say, God will grant them “open miracles” in 5784 and free them from trouble in general and in particular. The group says the merit comes from charity, the minyan, and the auspicious day.
At the end of the prayer, the rabbis meeting at the rosh yeshiva’s home are expected to sign a special “open miracles” document for people who make a regular donation to the Gimmel Tammuz fundraising drive and submit names for the prayer. The text claims this is based on the power of charity and on a “judgment decree” carried out on the auspicious day.
Kupa Ha'ir says the wording of the document speaks for itself and notes that Rabbi Povarsky and ten leading rabbis agreed unanimously that the event has the power to bring salvation. The organization argues that anyone who gives money to the charity, which it says supports many needy families each month, will not be harmed and will see “supernatural” blessing and success.
