Survivor Winner Discusses Gender Bias in Competition

Alit Musayof, winner of the 12th season of the reality show "Survivor" in 2023, recently appeared on the show "Reality Check" for a special episode focusing on "Survivor Women." Musayof, who won the title of "Last Survivor" after defeating Gal Robin, Tal Mordechai, and Sahar Cohen, discussed her experiences on the island from a female perspective. Topics included hunger, menstruation, loss of privacy, female alliances, social dynamics, and the different treatment of strong and dominant women.

Musayof, who was 52 when she competed, addressed the criticism surrounding her victory and the challenges women face in competitive environments. "When a woman is strong and successful, it's hard to see that. I think this is in all areas of life, not just in 'Survivor,'" she stated. She questioned why women are often more judgmental and critical of other women's success compared to men's.

"Why? Because in the end, we are driving, and the world and this generation, and all over the world, is about driving women to power, to strength, to advance the female sex. So why can women be so judgmental and critical towards women? Why is it okay when a man does it? He eliminates his best friend, and that's normal, but if a woman eliminates her best friend, she's a traitor," Musayof elaborated.

The discussion also touched upon whether women can play a "dirty game" without facing harsher consequences and how Musayof dealt with the show's editing and negative online reactions. The episode featured co-host Linor Sabnik and guest Shi Laniado.
