Germany Eyes $1 Billion Deal for Israeli LORA Missile System After Successful Test

Germany's Navy has successfully conducted a secret test of Israel's LORA ballistic missile in the North Atlantic Ocean, paving the way for a potential deal worth approximately one billion euros. The trial, which took place in deep waters between Ireland and Iceland, demonstrated the missile's rapid deployment and launch capabilities from a naval frigate.

Following the successful complex launch, Berlin is expected to advance a significant procurement of the Israel Aerospace Industries' precision strike system. This acquisition is part of Europe's heightened preparedness against perceived Russian threats. The German Navy commander expressed enthusiasm, stating the ship-based launch "made naval history" and initiated a critical new phase in Germany's deterrence and defense capabilities.

The LORA system, developed by IAI, is designed for pinpoint strikes on strategic targets deep within enemy territory within minutes of identification. For Germany, it represents a crucial solution to bridge an operational gap against regional threats. This planned acquisition follows Germany's major deal for the Arrow 3 missile defense system, underscoring Europe's increasing reliance on Israeli defense technology for national security.

The successful test proved the missile's ability to extend the German Navy's firing range to over 500 kilometers, a capability previously absent from the German military.
