German Navy Successfully Tests Israeli Ballistic Missile

The German Navy conducted a highly classified test of the Israeli LORA ballistic missile from a frigate in the North Atlantic Ocean late Tuesday night into Wednesday. The successful test, conducted in international waters between Ireland and Iceland, aims to significantly extend the fleet's missile range and address a gap in long-range precision strike capabilities.

The LORA missile, developed and manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), has a range exceeding 500 kilometers. German Navy Commander Jan Christian Kaack hailed the achievement, stating, "With the successful launch of the ballistic missile tonight in the North Atlantic, we have made naval history. I am very satisfied with this accomplishment."

Following the successful trial, Germany plans to accelerate its acquisition of the Israeli system. The LORA system allows for rapid deployment from ships and can strike strategic targets deep within enemy territory in approximately ten minutes from detection.

Commander Kaack emphasized the system's importance in the face of regional threats, noting, "The system can be successfully deployed from German ships, and its potential range exceeds anything we have known in the past. To protect Germany and our allies, this test represents a new chapter in deterrence and naval defense readiness."

These developments are part of Germany's broader armament programs aimed at deterring Russia, particularly in light of the war in Ukraine. Germany also intends to purchase and deploy U.S. Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers for deployment within its territory. This move, agreed upon on the sidelines of a NATO summit, will enable strikes deep into Russian territory, including Moscow, which is approximately 1,600 kilometers from Berlin. Germany is also collaborating with European allies to develop independent European defense systems.
