Israel Successfully Tests LORA Ballistic Missile, Eyes Major German Deal

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and the Ministry of Defense successfully tested the LORA sea-launched ballistic missile from a German Navy vessel in Germany on Wednesday. The test, described as highly successful and according to plan, demonstrated the missile's capability to surprise enemy forces.

Defense officials anticipate that the impressive display and the German Ministry of Defense's satisfaction will lead to a significant deal for IAI to supply the LORA missile. The LORA system has a range of up to 400 kilometers and can achieve pinpoint accuracy within approximately ten meters. Weighing around 1,600 kilograms, it is designed to strike strategic targets deep within enemy territory.

The LORA missile can be launched from both naval and land platforms. It is GPS-guided, offering a rapid response capability that allows for deployment within minutes. Its advanced warhead is capable of precise strikes on known targets within its range. The missile is stored in a sealed container and has a shelf life of seven years without requiring maintenance.

The LORA weapon system was developed by IAI's Missile Systems and Space Group, which is also responsible for air defense systems like Arrow 2 and Arrow 3, as well as Barak 8 and loitering missiles. This division also develops advanced satellite systems, including observation satellites, nanosatellites, satellite launchers, and communication satellites.
