Israeli Navy's First Female Missile Ship Commander Poised for Further Promotions

The first woman to command a missile ship in the Israeli navy, identified only as Lieutenant Commander "R", is reportedly on track for further promotions following a successful first six months in command. Appointed in February, her performance has impressed her superiors, according to The Jerusalem Post. The vessel she commands is slated for a significant role in Israeli military operations. Prior to her command, the ship was involved in operations against the Syrian navy and missions targeting Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, as reported by the Israeli military.

Since Lieutenant Commander "R" took the helm, the ship has continued to participate in key operations and complex missions. Her naval career began about ten years ago, and she completed commander training in 2016. She previously served as deputy commander of a missile ship and commanded a Dvora-class vessel.

Her appointment in February was based on merit, according to former Israeli Navy Commander Vice Admiral David Saar Salama. The promotion of women within the Israeli navy has been increasing in recent years, with Lieutenant Commander "R" becoming a prominent figure in this trend by commanding a major combat vessel. Her superiors believe her achievements indicate a trajectory toward greater responsibilities within the navy.
