Netanyahu's Wife Accuses Opposition Leader of Foreknowledge of Oct. 7 Attack

Sara Netanyahu, wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, alleged in a Channel 14 interview that opposition leader Yair Golan, chairman of the National Unity party, knew about the Hamas attack on October 7 in advance and was prepared for it.

"You claim you are a fighter on October 7, you were already dressed and ready early in the morning. At a very early hour, when others didn't know, such as the Prime Minister," she stated, despite Golan, a former IDF deputy chief of staff, having assisted in combat and civilian rescue efforts in the Gaza envelope area on the morning of the attack. Golan himself stated he only traveled to the area about an hour and a half after the assault began. Netanyahu presented no evidence for her claims.

When asked about conspiracy theories suggesting the attack was enabled by "betrayal from within," she responded, "I don't want to talk. I don't know. Let there be a real investigative committee," though she has previously expressed opposition to a state commission of inquiry.

Netanyahu reiterated claims that the security establishment had deliberately kept the Prime Minister out of the loop regarding pre-attack warnings. "In general, who is the Prime Minister that needs to know a war is breaking out, why inform him?" she asked sarcastically. She also addressed online discourse against her family, stating, "Our children paid a very heavy price." She described protests outside the Prime Minister's residence in Jerusalem as a "circle of fire around our home, so everyone would suffocate and die." Regarding flares fired at their Caesarea home on November 16, 2024, she claimed they contained phosphorus and asked, "They shot bombs at us. Do you hear about anyone, whether a prime minister or another public figure, who had bombs shot at them?" The four individuals arrested in that incident were charged with acts of terror, among other offenses.

The National Unity party issued a strong condemnation of Netanyahu's remarks about Golan, stating, "Spreading conspiracies against General Yair Golan, and tarnishing his bravery on October 7, are crossing a red line bordering on madness. While Netanyahu ran to put on makeup and look for excuses, Yair Golan charged in and saved lives. The facts will not change, no matter how much the Netanyahu family and Channel 14 try to rewrite them."
