Yair Golan Slams Netanyahu's Wife Over Hamas Attack Knowledge Claims

Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, has fiercely responded to insinuations made by Sara Netanyahu, wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, suggesting Golan knew about the October 7th Hamas attack before the Prime Minister. In a strong statement released overnight, Golan vehemently denied these claims.

Golan accused Prime Minister Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and senior security officials of repeatedly trying to warn the Prime Minister about impending threats since the government was sworn in, but claimed Netanyahu ignored these warnings. He specifically referenced a statement made by Netanyahu in April 2023, where the Prime Minister downplayed security warnings as "exaggerated."

The controversy stems from an interview Sara Netanyahu gave to Channel 14. She implied that Golan was "dressed and ready" early on October 7th, before the Prime Minister was even aware of the unfolding events. She also questioned why the Prime Minister needed to be informed about the outbreak of war and, when asked about internal betrayal theories regarding the attack, stated she did not want to comment and called for a genuine investigation committee.

Golan, a retired Major General and former Deputy Chief of Staff, went to southern Israel on October 7th to rescue civilians and assist in fighting. He reportedly received information starting at 6:30 AM, donned his military uniform, and left his home around 8:00 AM, heading to areas in the Gaza border region to help rescue festival-goers.

Golan concluded his statement by vowing that Netanyahu would be held accountable for the "negligence" and "dereliction of duty" surrounding the attack, promising that this would happen "immediately after we enter the next government."
