Popular Northern Israel Spring Closed for Safety Upgrades

Ein Jones spring in the Jordan Valley, a popular natural site in northern Israel, has been temporarily closed to the public due to safety concerns. The old structure at the site was declared dangerous and at risk of collapse. Work began this week to reinforce the structure's walls, windows, and construction, along with engineering efforts to stabilize the walls that are in danger of collapsing. The project, which includes replacing gravel in the pools with larger, cleaner river stones to avoid harming the spring's flow, is expected to take approximately four months and cost around 2 million shekels.

The site is funded by the Israel Land Authority through the Fund for the Preservation of Open Spaces and is being carried out by the Kinneret Drainage and Rivers Authority. Upon completion, Ein Jones will reopen to the public free of charge, as it has been historically. Authorities are urging visitors not to come to the site during the renovation period, as it will be considered an active construction zone and unsafe for visitors.
