WhatsApp Tests New Security Feature to Block Unofficial Web Access

WhatsApp is developing a new security tool designed to alert users when they attempt to log into their accounts via unofficial WhatsApp Web clients. This feature, discovered in a beta version for Android by WABetaInfo, is still under development and testing. The warning will appear in the 'Linked Devices' section, where users can view and manage connected devices.

When the system detects the use of an unofficial web client, it will display a message advising the user to switch to the official WhatsApp Web service. This move aims to combat the use of third-party tools that enable WhatsApp access through interfaces not officially developed or operated by the company, thereby reducing potential security risks.

The development comes amid reports from many Israelis experiencing WhatsApp account blocks, particularly after attempting to connect through the official Web service. These blocks are often temporary, with accounts typically reactivated within 24 hours after a review request is submitted via the app.

If widely released, this new warning could signal WhatsApp's stricter stance on unofficial web connections. The feature is currently in testing, with no official release date announced for the stable version of the application.
