Ultra-Orthodox Protest Erupts Near IDF Recruitment Center, Clashes with Police

Ultra-Orthodox demonstrators blocked roads near the IDF recruitment center in Tel HaShomer on Monday morning, protesting against the conscription of Haredim and the arrest of draft dodgers. Police and Border Police forces worked to disperse the protest, leading to confrontations with the demonstrators.

Video footage showed protesters shouting against soldiers arriving at the recruitment center, blocking roads in the area, and obstructing traffic. One demonstrator was filmed throwing himself under the wheels of a vehicle, and another attempted to throw himself under a truck.

The Israel Police stated they were working from the early morning hours to maintain public order and direct traffic following an illegal protest outside the IDF base at Tel HaShomer. "Disturbers of the peace began blocking traffic arteries a short time ago, and officers are working to push them back," the police reported.

As a result, Yaakov Dori Street in Kiryat Ono was closed in both directions from Levi Eshkol Street to Shlomo HaMelech Street. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area.

According to the police, officers repeatedly announced via loudspeaker that the protest was illegal. The demonstrators reportedly ignored the instructions, continuing to block the road and clash with police.

The police statement concluded, "The Israel Police will continue to allow freedom of protest within the bounds of the law, but will not permit disturbances, violent riots, or any behavior that could endanger public safety."
