Border Police Seize Nearly $400,000 in Cash Hidden in Car Near Jerusalem
Border Police officers at the Tunnels Crossing near Jerusalem thwarted a significant attempt to smuggle approximately 1.4 million Israeli shekels (about $375,000 USD) in cash, suspected to be linked to terrorism financing. The money was discovered hidden within a double-walled compartment in a vehicle arriving from Judea and Samaria and attempting to enter Jerusalem.
During a routine inspection over the weekend, officers became suspicious of a private car. A thorough search revealed the hidden compartment in the vehicle's rear section. Dramatic footage released by the police shows officers discovering large black plastic bags filled with stacks of cash concealed within the car's double wall.
The driver, a 29-year-old resident of Jerusalem, was arrested at the scene. He was taken for intensive joint interrogation by the Jerusalem District's Central Unit and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) to determine the source and intended destination of the funds.
The suspect's detention was extended by the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court until August 31, 2026, to allow for further investigation into the suspected terror financing operation.
