Police Seize $1.4 Million in Suspected Terror Funds Hidden in Car
Israeli security forces discovered approximately 1.4 million shekels (about $380,000 USD) in cash hidden within a double wall of a vehicle attempting to enter Jerusalem from the West Bank. The discovery was made during a routine inspection at the Tunnels Crossing by Border Police and crossing combatants.
During the search, a combatant expressed surprise upon finding the cash, exclaiming, "What is this? Oh my goodness." The money was concealed in two bags within a hidden compartment in the car's side panel.
The driver, a 29-year-old resident of Jerusalem, was arrested at the scene. Police suspect the funds are linked to terrorism. The driver has been transferred to a joint investigation by the Jerusalem District's Central Unit and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency).
His detention was extended by the Magistrate's Court as the investigation continues into the source and intended use of the money.
