All Suspects in Eldar Dayan Death Case Released Amid Forensic Uncertainty

A major development occurred in the investigation into the mysterious death of Eldar Yitzhak Dayan, whose body was found last month near Petah Tikva. Seven suspects, including Dayan's close friends Maxim Barberman and Omri Peretz, were released from house arrest and are now completely free, despite ongoing suspicions against them. The police decided not to extend their detention after concluding that the evidence had been exhausted and no clear forensic cause of death could be established.

The turning point came with the forensic report from the Abu Kabir Institute of Forensic Medicine, which stated that due to the condition of Dayan's remains, exposed in an open area for about two weeks and damaged by wild animals, a full autopsy was impossible. Consequently, the cause of death could not be definitively determined. This lack of conclusive forensic evidence created a significant legal obstacle, preventing the police from directly linking the suspects to the death or filing murder charges.

Initially, Dayan was reported missing following a violent altercation involving him, his two friends, and a group of five other youths in the Hod Hasharon and Yarkon Park area. The investigation expanded to include charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and simple assault by two or more persons. However, without clear forensic proof, the chances of securing a murder indictment have diminished to zero at this stage.

The suspects were first held in custody and then placed under house arrest, which was partially extended by a Petah Tikva magistrate court judge until Thursday. Upon receiving the forensic findings, the police canceled further detention hearings and released the suspects without restrictions. The case, which has drawn significant public attention, is now at an impasse. Investigators continue to review all collected evidence, but the absence of a definitive medical cause of death blocks progress toward serious charges.
