U.S. and Iran Reportedly Sign Memorandum of Understanding

A senior American official said Monday in a briefing to reporters that the United States and Iran have signed a dramatic memorandum of understanding, with the signatures of President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. The official said the arrangement reflects direct contact between Washington and senior Iranian figures, something he described as unprecedented for 47 years.

According to the official, the formal signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday and will include Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner. He said Iran agreed to unprecedented concessions, while the United States is considering steps it had not previously been willing to take in return.

The Trump administration expects a significant increase in shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz within two weeks. Another senior U.S. official said the next few weeks will be decisive, adding, “In the next two to three weeks we will know whether the understandings with Iran can become a formal agreement.”
