The United States will reportedly give Iran an immediate exemption from sanctions on oil and fuel sales as part of the agreement to end the war, which is expected to be finalized on Friday, according to The Wall Street Journal. The waiver would take effect as soon as the deal is signed, allowing Tehran to begin selling oil and fuel the same day.
Sources familiar with the talks said the move is intended to provide Iran with an early financial incentive to help secure a ceasefire and reduce the confrontation. The report says the step is part of the broader settlement now being negotiated.
An American official clarified that while Iran would receive immediate relief on oil-sale sanctions, any further easing would depend on its compliance with U.S. demands on the agreement's key issues, especially the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear program. The official also stressed that Tehran would not immediately gain access to billions of dollars in frozen funds.
