The United States will reportedly let Iran resume oil and fuel sales immediately under a deal aimed at ending the war, giving Tehran an early financial incentive to reduce and stop the conflict. The Wall Street Journal reported the plan, citing people familiar with the agreement.
According to those sources, the sanctions waiver covering oil sales would take effect as soon as the deal is signed this week. An unnamed senior U.S. official said the immediate relief would come despite broader pressure on Tehran.
The official added that any continued sanctions relief would depend on Iran meeting U.S. demands on issues including opening the Strait of Hormuz and its nuclear program. Iran would also not get immediate access to billions of dollars in frozen funds.
